I have an older Asus essentio, model cm5571, I threw a new psu and a 560ti in it to use as a secondary gaming pc for when friends come over, just rocket league and local Civ 5 games, stuff like that. I want to get it an RX 470, but would like to upgrade the cpu first. Its a 775, with chipset g43. Will a q9500 work in this board? If not what other quad cores could I use?

Solution
The Q9500 will most likely work. Your chipset definitely supports it; the real question is if the motherboard/BIOS do. There's a chance that the motherboard doesn't have the power delivery capable of running 95W CPUs, which is a problem on very specific Dell motherboards, but my gut tells me that won't be an issue here because it's an Asus PC. Make sure to update your BIOS from Asus's website before the upgrade and you should be good to go.

Keep in mind that the 95W heat output of the Q9500 is quite a bit higher than your current CPU's 65W, so you might need better cooling. YMMV

Thank you for your response. I am going to update the bios and buy a larger more coppery heatsink. Cant wait to see how well it performs. Youd be amazed at the performance of it now with the pentium and the 560ti, at 1600x900 on med settings it plays almost anything, again thank you, ill come back and let you know how ot goes....
