ummm..., why u getting either of these cards, is it because ur power supply cant handle the likes of a 4850 or 4830? Because if you have a 6-pin PCI-E connector on your PSU, the following will be nice for you...

1gb on either cards wont help you at all. rather get a 4670 or 9600gt

should i buy HIS Radeon HD4670 1GB for 118$ or should i try to get Palit Daytona GeForce 9600GT Sonic 1gb for 160$ ?

4670 gets my vote. 9600gt for 160 the 4830 or even the 4850 is a steal. Ps those midrange cards with one gig will run outa steam way before they hit the memory wall.

Pc details - about 3 yrs old, pentium 4, 3ghz, 500mg ram.

What should i buy? can i go for mid range card? how long can it normally last?
Should i install it myself(no idea how).
Will this card fit into any pc?

Before you do anything upgrade your RAM to 2 Gigs minimum. You can get a 2 Gig package these days for less than $50.00. As for your video card, if you're buying Nvidia, the second number indicates better. In other words, an 8800 is better than a 9600. With ATI the higher the number the better. If your budget is $100.00 or less, than probably an ATI card is best, if it's over $200.00, then probably an Nvidia card is best.. Probably the best deal going right now is the 4850, which has 800 stream processors and is running under $100.00. If your power supply can't handle it, then get yourself a Geforce 9600, you could probably pick one up for around $70.00 and it runs just fine on older systems.

Make sure you checkout the Power Supply requirements on any card you purchase and either upgrade your power supply or get something that will work with your setup.
