ASUS GL702VM Temperature Question

Hello,

I have had my STRIX Gl702vm for a couple months now and one thing that I have noticed is that it runs HOT, as in 90+ degrees C for CPU and 80+ on GPU when on full tilt. Inside is a I7-6700hq and a GTX 1060. I have taken some actions and been able to lower the temps to just under 80 on full tilt but I was wondering if this was low enough? I heard that keeping your temps cool was one of the best ways to make your system last.

I did a small amount of research and see that temps appear to be an issue with basically the whole strix lineup of laptops, some people suggest undervolting to lower temps which i am no expert on so i cant exactly recommend that. Some people even suggest returning it getting something else if that's an option.

Thank you for the answer Chad! I have actually underclocked it by .150V and it made about 10 degree difference. The main issue I have found is that the air intake holes are not in front of the fans. You think that that making custom holes on the bottom would be to extreme?

Thank you for the answer Chad! I have actually underclocked it by .150V and it made about 10 degree difference. The main issue I have found is that the air intake holes are not in front of the fans. You think that that making custom holes on the bottom would be to extreme?

I can't really give advice on that honestly, id say if you aren't thermal throttling at all i wouldn't worry too much. Thats just me though. I know you said something about making the system last, even at those temps I'd say you don't have a lot to worry about. You will be wanting an upgrade long before it wears out. Just keep it good and clean so the airflow it is getting stays as good as it can.

FINALLY ANSWERED. So I taking everyone's comments I downvolted by I7-6700hq by -.150 Volts which lowered the temps from 95+ to around 80 at full tilt. This still seemed really high so then I removed the fan dust protectors and it lowed to around 75. Finally I decided to repast the CPU and GPU among other components and BOOM. My laptop will not go above 54 degrees now regardless of what I try to make it do.

Final Decision, undervolting and removing the dust filters helped but if you are willing to spend 30 minutes to reapply thermal past then you should do it. Makes a huge difference.

WARNING: Re pasting can be tricky with this laptop and might void warranty. Also all degrees talked about above are in Celsius
