ASUS GTX 1050 Ti 4GB vs. MSI GTX 1060 3GB

Hi there,
I've been thinking about upgrading my PC for a while and I'm finally doing it, and I'm starting by upgrading the GPU.
After looking through the internet, I found the GTX 1050 Ti 4GB and the GTX 1060 3GB. Both are great (since my current GPU is a GTX 750 Ti), and they're not very expensive.

I would like to know the differences between these two, if that 1GB VRAM difference has any negative effect on performance and which one of them do you recommend.

Also, I would like to know if both of them are compatible with the rest of my current setup. Thanks.

Current PC specs:
Windows 10 Pro 64bit
AMD FX-8350 - 4.0 GHz (stock)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti (upgrading to a 1050 Ti or 1060)
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0

make sure you have a decent 500w+ power supply with a 6-pin pcie cable for the 1060



the vast majority of the time the vram is going to be irrelevant and the 1060 is a LOT stronger



your setup is just strong enough to use the 1060 properly as well, its way past time to overclock the processor though


try to get at least 4.5 ghz

I already tried to use the "Turbo mode", which changes it from 4.0 to 4.2, but my computer would just shutdown 10/15 minutes after I started GTA5 or any other game like CSGO or ETS2. I'm going to buy a better cooling after buying the 1060 though.

ok, its not like you wont notice a huge difference even at stock


shutdown is most likely a temp or power issue


upgrade the power supply, then give overclocking a try while monitoring temps ( dont do this if you have the stock cpu cooler )


MSI afterburner is a great tool, turn on cpu and gpu temp monitoring and keep an eye out for thermal throttling
