Asus gtx 1070 FE Severely underperforming

I play gta 5, and I just upgraded from a gtx 970 to a 1070. However, the performance is terrible compared to what online benchmarks say the 1070 can perform like. In 1080p, it struggles to reach 60 fps without even the highest settings. In fact, I've had to drop settings from where I had them with my 970. What is going on?

I've looked around for other threads on this forum and others and some said to uninstall msi afterburner, which I did, and also to turn off vsync. However, this did nothing to help the performance. I haven't tried any other games yet though.

Have you ghotten the newest drivers for the new card and removed the driers for the old?

What are the rest of your system specs? What are your GPU temps and clockspeeds like?

Yes I have the newest drivers and removed old through geforce experience but I just reinstalled windows to see if that does anything

i5 4590
8gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram
1tb wd blue
asus h97 mobo

In valley it says that max temp is around 79C and clock is 1900ish mhz. I don't have msi afterburner or anything like that so I don't know temps/clocks in gta

Your speeds and temps seem normal. You could try the log to file option using GPU-Z for recording temps, voltage, ect. if you don't want to try MSI Afterburner or similar software. However, given your results in Valley it seems like your card is performing normally. Also, GTA V is very CPU hungry. It could be your CPU slowing down your performance. Some of the "Advanced Settings" really bring down performance as well. Some quick Google searches show others with 1070s also getting around same FPS as you.

If it was me, I'd try some other games to see if they are performing better than your 970 to narrow down if it's a GTA V issue or something else.

I have a quad core i5 4590, so I don't believe its a cpu bottleneck. I reinstalled windows to see if it helped, and the frames maybe went up a little bit. The settings are at very high-ultra, vsync off, and most of the aa stuff on. could msaa 4x be affecting the fps that much? I feel like a 1070 could handle that based on what I've seen from benchmarks. I'll test temps and clock with gpuz tomorrow along with some other games. Thanks for the help so far. Also, in my experience, the advanced setting only bring down 10fps max.

Ok i just used gpu z and everything seems in order (at least I think)
~1806mhz core clock
2000mhz mem clock
73ºC max temp
a little less than 4gb vram used
1.043v
pegged at 99% load nearly the whole time.
Something that seemed odd to me about this card was the power consumption - never even hit 90w. Isn't this like a 150w tdp card?

Also I'm not worried about cpu temps I have an i5 4590 on a dark rock pro 3 so it should be fine.
Is the power consumtion alarming? the rx480 draws can draw right up to 150w from what I've seen and its a 150w tdp card so is this bad? Thanks for the help

So for late reply. Your GPU speeds and usage look fine. That's what you'd expect minus odd power consumption. Being prgged at nearly 99% showing your GPU is maxed out. Still, I can't explain using lower settings than your 970. Other games show improvement?

I guess its possible at 1080P in GTA V performance relies heavily on CPU over GPU. At 1440P or higher, the 1070 would outshine the 970.

Ok that would make sense. I will try 1440p when I upgrade my monitor and test some other games later today my guy. Also I saw that some gpu manufacturers using micron memory have some slight performance issues and asus uses micron so that could be my problem as well. Apparently they are coming out with a vbios update for it soon

I just read about the memory issue, so we'll see about that after firmware update. Given the performance numbers in game of your 1070, I'm thinking its related to GTA V or the memory issue. After testing other games at 1080P, you should have your answer I'd think.
