Hi people,

My Pc doesn't run when I put in my new Asus Gtx 1660 super 6gb OC.
I guess it is a power supply issue, but it is strange since I'm currently running a Zotac GTX 1070 mini which in theory is more energy demanding... (Gtx 1070 is 150W vs 125W GTX 1660 super) both use 8pin connector
The only difference I see between them is the memory type, one is GDDR6 and the 1070 is GDDR5, Could it be this the problem?

My current configuration is:

MB: MSI nightblade B85C
CPU: i7 4790K
GPU: Zotac GTX 1070 mini
RAM: 16 GBS 1600MHz
PSU: stock model, I guess is the 350W model

Yeah if it's a 320W psu then it's probably not enough.

Do you know that the 1660 super is working fine? It might be that the gpu is DOA.

Have you tried putting the 1070 back in and seeing that the pc works just fine again?

Hi guys,

Thank your quick responses. Answering your questions from top to bottom

The GTX 1660S is working fine, it is almost new bought on sep20, but I will check it tomorrow in a friend's PC to double check.

Yes, I put back my old GTX 1070 and the PC works again fine, I also tried some games and no problem.

I know Nvidia recommends 450W, but they also recommend 500W for a 970 and 1070 and both works fine with this PSU without any problems. I leave this website for your verification: PSU requirements

I want to change the 1070 because a 1660S runs almost at the same level and it is newer, plus my GTX1070 overheats a bit and fans are not as they used to be before (a bit noisy too)

Yes, my PC was prebuilt by MSI. It came with a i5-4660 and GTX 970, so I upgraded to extend its life. I read in other forum thread that other users of this PC were not recommending changing the PSU due to the lack of space on it which makes it very difficult to replace. The PSU is located in the front top face of pc instead on the rear bottom face like regular cases, so cabling is a nightmare, believe me that is the last thing I want to do... I would sell the GPU before changing the PSU or even I would buy a new PC haha

Thank you.

Any idea of why this cards is causing this problem? In theory it should work... I mean if my PSU is capable of running a GTX 1070 why not a GTX 1660S with less power consumption?

thanks!!
