Asus GTX 560 diffrence to a GTX 580

Ok i was thinking about buying a " ASUS DirectCU II GeForce GTX 580 (1536 MB) Graphics Card" but just found a "Asus GTX 560 DirectCU II OC 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card "
which is 100 pound cheaper than the 580.. I checked the specs and it does not seam to be much diffrent for the 100 pound...


Is the much difference between the

Asus GeForce GTX 560 DirectCU II OC 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E Graphics Card

and

Asus GTX580 DirectCU II Graphics card


i have noticed the first card is 250 and the second card is 150 ....

GTX 580 is a much faster card.

As you can see, it's around 43.6% faster. You get a bit less performance for your cash (95/150 = 0.633, 139/250 = 0.556) though, but you get a much faster card.

Unless the 560 is really a 560 ti, you'll see as far as double the performance from the GTX580. Even if the card is a 560ti, the 580 is a worthy upgrade and offers better future-proofing.

what about a
ASUS Radeon HD 7850 DirectCU II 2gb GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 DVI HDMI Graphics Card is that much betetr than the 580 ?? i notice the ASUS Radeon HD 7850 need a pci express 3.0 port when my motherboard only supports 2.0 .... i noticed the HD 7850 has double more cores....

I have just checked with my motherboard and it says i have

1 x PCIe x16
1 x PCIe x1
2 x PCI

would a pci expres 3.0 card be able to work ? Also would it be best to get a ASUS Radeon HD 7850 or the 580 ???

I would go for the 7850, less power, shorter (my case is small) and can play 1080 easy
The 580 is more expensive but performs better
PCIe3 cards on PCIe2 slots are fine there's just less memory bandwidth but that won't be a problem at this level

i have a huge case a nzxt switch 800 so size is not a problem so the 580 is a better card ??? i heard if i plug in a pci express 3.0 card into a 2.0 slot there will be a 1% decrease...

Is there much of a better performance from the 580 to the 7850 ??

I ran a test here http://www.hwcompare.com/12052/geforce-gtx-580-vs-radeon-hd-7850/ and says its 20% better than the hd 7850... i noticed the hd7850 was not posted int he pic up above...

GTX 580 is around 24% faster than HD 7850.

And you heard right about the only 1% decrease.

Last thing: Don't use HWCompare, it tends to be inaccurate. I'd suggest www.techpowerup.com instead.

Thanks for this image. I had a look and seen that a GTX 580 has a pci express 2.0 and the hd has a 3.0. So the GTX 580 will fit into my 2.0 port ok ??? I think ill go with the GTX 580. Thanks

Yes it will fit into your 2.0 port perfectly. Those PCI express versions are physically the same and are backwards compatible (no, you don't need to put the card in backwards :lol:), so any card with any PCIe version X.Y will work in PCIe I.J port.

GTX 580 is a very very nice choice. It's the fastest single GPU card of last generation, and it still holds tremendous power within it self. Make to have a power supply to support it, it needs one 8-pin and one 6-pin connectors ;).

Thanks ive just bought a 580 and hoping to save up and buy another one and run them both. Can i ask what you ment by "It's the fastest single GPU card of last generation" ??? i was told having 2 of these cards would make your computer untouchable game wise.

Graphics cards are categorized by generations. Today we have GeForce 600 and Radeon HD 7000 series. Last year we had GeForce 500 and Radeon HD 6000 series. Usually, generations change every 1.5 years. GeForce 600 series came out three months ago.

Also, there are cards like GTX 590 that have two GPUs inside them - that one is actually two GTX 580s placed on one card.

So GTX 580 was the fastest card with one GPU in the last generation - very few cards are faster than it. And those that are faster, came out only recently.

Having two GTX 580s will annihilate any game you throw at it - it's an extremely powerful setup. Just make sure you have the power for it :).

Ive just found out that with the card comes a 6xpint o 8 pin wire. But the card need 2 8 pins ?? And on my power supply i have only 2 6 pins..... which the wire which convertes the 2 6s to a 8 which came with the gfx card will use so im guessing ill need to buy a 8 pin to molex to do the other 8 pin ???

Because like i said i have only 2 6 pin and that wire were you put 2 6 pins into it and have 1 8 on the other side.... so guessing ill have to buy a molex to 8 pin ?? Ive been told not to buy molex to 8 pin because the power surges which will damage the card.....

Molex to 8 pin are very bad. Don't ever use them.

What is your power supply exactly? Don't the six pins look like this?

It might be the case that your power supply is too weak for the GTX 580. However, since you said you wanted to get another GTX 580 in the future, it might be a good reason to get another power supply anyway so you could run two cards.
