Greetings, I am planning a future build that will be running on a Maximus VI Hero Motherboard, which uses a UEFI Bios. However I have discovered that the GTX 660 Direct CUII OC Edition does not support UEFI Bios Natively.

However the GTX 760 does. This would add an additional $300 or so onto my build, so I am curious...

Will the GTX 660 work normally even if I install the Maximus VI Hero in UEFI Mode with Windows 8.1? Or will I need to update the firmware on the GPU for this to work for the motherboard.

If so, can I do the updating of the GTX 660 to UEFI support on another computer or do I need to do it on the newer board, would the GTX 770 be worth the hassle of getting given I do not know how to update a BIOS?

Honestly I haven't seen any motherboards that don't do legacy support as of yet so i'd say you are good to go. I was also under the impression that the uefi bios was meant as a more secure way for windows to make a secure partition for the boot sector( correct me if i'm wrong please i'd like to know for sure). I have a z87 sabertooth with i7 4470k and haven't had any issues dropping in a few different cards such as 7950 or my gtx titan( which is newer i know). I would buy it and not worry about that stuff myself but maybe someone else around here who has more knowledge could enlighten us both to be 100%.

I'm looking through a few ideas. I believe my GTX 660 has the Legacy VBios on it, and not the UEFI VBios. In that case would it make sense to install Windows 8.1 64 bit in UEFI Mode with the Processor as the primary visual adapter and then using the updater to update from Legacy to UEFI. But yes I see your point, Lantrich. I'm just worrying and really don't want to have to spend an additional $300 on something I probably don't need.

It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, assuming I install in UEFI mode with Windows 8.1, I can probably use the GPU regardless, cause Windows 8.1 would install basic display drivers right?
EDIT: Do I really need the UEFI vBIOS on the GTX 660? Will I be able to install Windows 8.1 in UEFI mode irregardless of the GPU?
