I currently am having trouble keeping my cards cool playing The Witcher 3. I reach leaves of around 85 C on ultra with stock settings. My cpu is an i7-3770k that i overclocked to 4.2 ghz. I understand my cards are close together and i do have a mid size case. On the door panel of my case i have an exhaust fan sucking the heat from the 970s. My game will crash if i alt tab or acter an hr of playing sometimes. and when i do overclock my cards i get to 1510 mhz with a 3.7 ghz on each card but i feel like im wearing my cards like that if to cool it i have to run gpu fans at 90%. and at that i starts to creap up slowly from 70 C to 80C + when i play for more than 30 minutes. up for any suggestions! thanks!

My Galax/KFA2 GTX970 EXOC is running around max 65'C on full load.
A GTX970 should be ok in this temperature zone.
Please keep in mind that the temperature is also dependent on your room temperature.
My room temperature is 19-22'C.

If your GTX970 runs @70'C max, it should be still ok.
Post your build.

Sounds like you should get a bigger more well ventilated case. Make sure you blow the dust out from inside your case so the coolers work better. Use a custom fan profile in Afterburner to see that the gtx are kept cool.

Back off all overclocks till you have it sorted.

It might be your fans, how many fans to you have in your case? Also do you have Intake and outtake fans, This is a little common problem but try removing the overclock so much if your pc cant handle it. If also you can try opening your case, it won't heat up as much then since it has more room meaning it would take longer time to heat up. Could you aslo tell me what Case you have ?

Haha, thats exaclty what I told him todo. I suggest him tell us what case he has so we can try figure out the best intake and outtake spots for fans.

Fan on the door panel is sucking from the case instead of blowing into the case?
hmmm...this is new to me..I thought it should be blowing into the case.
The guys above are correct post your case and also post your GPUs brand and exact model (not only the GTX970 info).

Im not a 100% sure what my case is but i do know its a midtower has one intake in the front one intake at the top the outake in the back and the fan on the door thats outaking air. I have Asus Strix and when i said that i was running my fans at 90% just to cool from going over 80 C was using Afterburner.
I have a i7-3770k overclocked to 4.2ghz stable under 65C, asrock z77 extreme4, 16 gigs of Crucial ram, Kingston 128 gig ssd, and Hitachi 500gig hdd.

I switched the fan around and it helped a little. if i run my cards stock and play the witcher 3 i have to keep my gpu fans at 60% for the top card to stay around 70 C. does this sound normal?

Id like to add that after i play the witcher 3 and my cards are running stock with stock fan settings, my system will be idle and the top 970 will be 60c and the bottom will be around 40c. i know heat rises and all by 20c difference?
