Hey Folks,

I had a post over the weekend looking for an upgrade to my graphics cards. I've been looking over the last week and found the two cards listed above. Still searching for the right card; I'd like to play games such as BF3, Skyrim, GW2, Crysis 2-3, on high if not max.

Which card would be more ideal as they're both priced in similar values?

Those performance numbers and price points are skewed. They had the 7950 up against the GTX 670 instead of 660ti up against the HD 7950 and they had the 7970 up against the GTX 680 instead of GTX 680 up against the 7970GHz Edition.

That's because it's "apples to apples", those are the two top single GPU cards from each company at the time the article was written.

Sure it is true, but anyways the 7950 is a better card (in numbers) than the 660ti and is basically an UC 7970, does the GHz clock do much, no? I've seen the 7970 as a direct 680 competitor placed at 670 range and the 7950 a 670 competetior at 660Ti prices, it has worked since Notthern Islands. There is no point in arguing, just let the OP get a MSi PE670, EVGA 670 FTW, ASUS DCUII 670, or any 7970 that fits his bill.

If it was Apples to Apples it would be in the same Price point otherwise it's skewed. According to what you are saying Titan is ok to benchmark and compare against an HD 7970 because both are the two top single GPU cards "apples to apples".
We have to benchmark and compare GPUs according to their respective price brackets otherwise it just called skewing the numbers. A $1000 Titan is not fair to bench against a $400 HD 7970 or $500 GTX 680.

Only in your mind does it work like that and if AMD brought out a slightly higher binned 7970 then that would be the one to put up against the Titan, something like a "GHz" version perhaps?

The 7970 is not in the same price bracket as the GTX 680 but the Ghz Edition is. We must compare Apples to Apples price bracket to price bracket otherwise the numbers become skewed and invalid.

Sorry, but life just works like it, the Titan and 690 issue will possibly be solved by Permanent Ear Damage 3.0 (7990)
As stated above, OP ignore this arguing and choose the 670 or 7970 that fits your needs (I would recomend the ASUS DCUII 670, EVGA 670 FTW, MSI PE N670, MSi TFIII 7970, or Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 Ghz(if you are leaning that off budget).

But graphics cards do. Apples to Apples is not skewing price points.

Not as if you could not get the 7970 GHz to run on *cough cough Launch 7XXX drivers cough cough* with any improvements maybe even lack of support. The Ghz came around in Summer, to see a whole year's worth of improvement start with the one directly competiting with it from release (Non Ghz)...

And now that the 7990 has officially been announced, bring on the discounts for older cards haha! I'm planning on going sometime this week or the next (super busy with work, hence the absence from this forum) and I'll talk with the techies there. Shall keep you updated with what I end up getting!

Hey everyone, so it turns out the 670 FTW deal I thought I could price match didn't work out, and as the 670 is only slightly better then the 7950, yet significantly more in price, I couldn't justify purchasing it. In the end, I decided to go with the XFX
Radeon HD 7950 Double Dissipation Edition 3GB. Definitely happy with the purchase, will provide more info when I have time to test out the card!

Nice, test some of your games, and OC the 965BE.

Just finished reformatting my PC, and now am updating and installing everything. Only comment I have to make so far is between the processor and new graphics card, the fan noise has jumped significantly lol. First game I'll be installing is BF3, should make for a good test.

Alright, a good idea would be to OC before testing the card as pointed above, so you can experience the true power of the 7950 or you would be much better off with a 7850 should you not OC your CPU.
