So I have the Asus GTX970 Strix which is factory overclocked at 1253Mhz. Without any extra overclock on my end the temperature is stable at 55-60 degrees celsius. Using the GPUTweak ultility from Asus I can overclock it even further to 1483Mhz, 7800Mhz memory clock and 1.2v. At these settings it runs stable but any higher and things start going wrong. When playing GTA5 while the card is overclocked with the aforementioned settings the temperature does not exceed 70-75 celsius.
So I wonder if when overclocked and playing such a demanding game and the temperature is within reasonable bounds is it worth water cooling it? Even if I add water cooling to it I can't overclock it any further so it makes no sense performance wise. Are there any other benefits to water cooling that would justify water cooling it? Lets say with water cooling while gaming I can keep the GPU at 50-55c whilst without it is 70-75c. Is that a significant difference to justify water cooling. Personally I do not think so. I am not looking for a specific answer just for some information, opinion, and a different angle from someone more experienced than me in those things.
