I'm having some trouble with the motherboard I recently bought for my first build. I have looked at the physical instruction manual it came with, as well as the one online.

The case I'm using is a Bitfenix Mini ITX.

I can't seem to connect the cords such as POWER SW and RESET SW. The system won't power on.

I did the POWER LED+ and the POWER LED-, however they do not work in the places the manual had shown. I switched then around a bit and they're working fine now. Which is why I've become rather lost and frustrated with the instructions.

Thank you for the help. (If for some reason this is the wrong category, I apologize.)

Solution
Update: I just saw a pc with similar problem to yours bro. The power supply fan wasn't working, not even the cpu cooler but showed green led on on the motherboard after pressing the power button. I shorted the power button pins and it turned on. I would ask you again to check again for final conformation.
you should have connected Power LED+ to +ve pin on motherboard and the Power LED- to -ve pin. People building new build often gets confused at that part, but there is no harm if you did connect them wrong, you can always put them the other way around. Sorry for the trouble you been.

@brarboy: The power LEDs are fine, working, and in the correct spot now. The Power, Reset, and HDD pins are not working? They're in the correct spots, I believe. The desktop won't turn on but the motherboard light and power LEDs attached to the side panel work fine?

@brarboy: I went through the list as much as I could and re-did all the parts on the motherboard. I'm still having the same trouble with powering up the system except for the lights.

does your cpu cooler fan runs when you press power button? Do you hear any beep from motherboard speaker? What cable are you using to connect your monitor to motherboard? What are rest of the system configurations?
Check your RAM, try booting with single stick and swap the slot after using first one.

@bravely: I apologize for the late reply. No, the fan does not work when I press the power button. Only the LED lights. I do not hear any beeps from the motherboard speaker? To be honest, I'm not sure where it even is?

I'm using a D-Sub and a DVI port to connect my monitor.

it can be your front panel connectors most probably. For brief view as in pic:

Your power connectors are located next to main power supply connector. Look at the pic below:

In the pic, the red outlined box will have Power Button connector. Green Box will have Power Led connector. The arrows shows the direction labels on connectors will be facing towards.

@bravely: The Power LED connectors, consisting of Power LED+ and Power LED -, do not work unless the LED - is in the grey and the LED + is directly behind it in the yellow. I'm not sure if that's significant or not?

I tried it the way you suggested and nothing happened?

for the power led+, insert it into +ve pin and other -ve led in -ve pin.
If nothing happened, take out the power button connector from the motherboard and take a screw driver. Short(Connect both the pins at the same time) red outlined box pins(Power button pins) and recheck again. If that doesn't do the job, check the psu cables.

@brarboy: The Power LED+ and Power LED - both work in the yellow. I apologize for the misinformation. They just won't work side by side, only right behind one another. I tried the screwdriver trick with no results. Perhaps I was doing it wrong?

I just checked the PSU with a paperclip and it turned on fine?

just touch them both together at once the pins in red labelled box. Use any other metal object in case you are not sure about screw driver.

@brarboy: Just to make sure I'm doing this right. I unplugged all the other pins such as Power LED + and RESET SW. I then tried a paperclip to connect the two golden pins where the POWER SW is supposed to go according to the picture. Nothing?

that is right, what else did you connect to your motherboard?
It mostly is going to be bad motherboard, if you can turn your cpu fan even.

@brarboy: I had everything else connected such as the cpu fan, cooling fans and audio.

A bad motherboard? Again? This is the second one of the same model that I've tried. While they do say that the third time's the charm, is there any other you would recommend?

just connect cpu, cpu cooler, single RAM stick, keyboard, monitor, ATX 6 or 4-pin connector for cpu and main psu connector to your board. Again, check it outside the case. Power on psu and see if it display anything after shorting. If it doesn't remove cpu cooler and check your processor by touching it lightly whether it's getting warmer or still cold? Also, try clearing CMOS.
Anyway, what would be your budget for new motherboard?

@brarboy: It's still dead. I tried the above suggestion and still nothing.

I'd say my absolute max would be $200 and I'd prefer to buy it off Amazon, if possible.

did you check your cpu by touching it after removing the cpu cooler? Is it still cold?
For motherboard, there aren't any more option available for your cabinet form factor, here is one i think that will do the job:

before going for another motherboard, just once again give an another check on power supply. Just to make sure if it's the faulty one. It's either you psu isn't giving much power to your build or it will be your motherboard for obvious.

if power supply is working good, then yes it will be your motherboard. Or one other thing you can check is your cpu cooler. Change it's plug to any other port on your mobo or check any other cooler if they are working on your motherboard. Keep us updated after you take any step exchanging the motherboard and cpu cooler.
