ASUS H97 plus: Cannot enter BIOS

Hey guys,

I have severe trouble booting my computer. Have set up my system about a year before and never had any real trouble so far. Yesterday I had a crash that was not control-alt-del - able, so I used the reset button on my case. When I started the system up the next time, it booted into the BIOS. After leaving the BIOS, it booted up again into BIOS. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.

After some reading (maybe not enough?) I decided to re-set my CMOS. Set the jumper on 2-3 for a minute or something, set it back, started up the computer. Now I cannot enter the BIOS anymore, and it doesn't but further on. What happens? The system doesn't register me hitting DEL or F2 (F2 with any windows-functionality-buttons I can find), and later when it asks me to hit F1 it again doesn't register any input. I used F1 and, again, F1 combined with any functionality buttons, CRTs, ALTs and SHIFTS. I have used any USB port on my case, without any other results. I have NOT used a PS2-keyboard, since I don't have one. The NumLock is on during the boot but I cannot switch it off. However when staring at the "Press F1 to Run SETUP" screen I can CRT-ALT-DEL into a new boot. I also tried to use the DVD/CD that accompanied the motherboard without any effect. BTW, the screen detects "USB Devices total: 0 Drive, 1 Keyboard, 1 Mouse, 3 Hubs" ...

What happened? How can I enter the BIOS? Any ideas? Except buying a ps2-keyboard?

Thanks for your help!

Solution

buying/borrow a ps2-keyboard, always worked for me when this happens, and changed the usb keyboard to legacy etc and sata mode, graphics mode etc. This is why i keep a ps/2 keyboard.
Ps; those adapters for usb to ps/2 don't work

if windows, what version are you running? can you get into windows or was my question pointless? If you can get in, there are ways into the bios from win 8 & win 10

You have same bios as me, maybe not exact version but same design and stuff

all of this is nice but we need to get into bios unless the sequence in bios auto loads bios?

page 2-3 in this may help: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/H97-PLUS/E9723_H97-PLUS_Guide_v2_web_high_res.pdf?_ga=1.167199611.498827241.1458116980

Hey guys,

thanks for your messages!

@Colif:
No, I cannot enter Windows. The boot stops and expects me to press F1 to enter BIOS. I will wonder into eternity why it doesn't do that on its own, if it is so difficult to get a keyboard running at that point of booting ...

I.e., the things mentioned on 2-3 don't help, as far as I get it, because they all require either me to enter anything (which I can't) or the system to read anything from the DVD/CD drive (which it doesn't).

@Mark:
Yeah, will keep that in mind ... How such a lapse of functionality can be possible goes beyond my understanding, however.

Hey guys,

once again thank you very much for your help!

Had a PS2 keyboard brought in, and voila! the system recognized the F1. Strangely enough it didn't the F2 or DEL before the final hit-F1-screen, but anyway, it worked. However, the whole procedure didn't solve my initial problem, which I reposted here, in case anybody is wondering.
