ASUS HD 7950 DC2 Temps

Hi Guys!
I have an ASUS HD7950-DC2 GFX card. Used less than 7 days. I have been reading about how faulty the cooler is and the bad contact issue with GPU>Cooler.
When running Furmark 15min burn-in test my GPU temps goes up to 73'C @ 35% (Fans set to 30%). I usually close the bench there.

1. I head someone solved the temp issue by using washers with the screws and limited his temps to 58'C. Is it possible to achieve such a low temp?
* I'm using MSI Afterburner and CCC 13.1 (WHQL) - No micro shuttering in games thanks to the new driver but it could be improved.

2. When I OC my card up to 900Mhz(Core) 1300Mhz(Memory) I gain nothing in Furmark bench. However if I enable 20% power in CCC and then OC and run Furmark I gain 17FPS.
* I get 29FPS average if I disable 20% power in CCC. If I enable it I get 35FPS and OC it a bit I get 47FPS.

3. Since VRAM cooling is bad in the V1, is it okay to OC the card for daily use?

I'm hoping to bring the card back to the store but not sure if these issues are normal or not. They won't RMA it if it is completely okay.

id suggest checking your fan speed and bring it up to 45%. and let me know ur temps.

@iceclock - I just ran Furmark as you asked. Set Fan speed to 45% and enabled 20% power in CCC but didn't OC. Just default clock. Temps maxed 66'C and I ran the bench of 8mins (50%) but temps were stable at 66'C.

Temps look completely fine. I fixed mine using washers.

My VRM temps at stock voltage @ 1100 is around 65 degrees celcius. These things are rated for around 105 degrees.

Its completely fine, enjoy the card! If you do come to having overheating issues, its simple to fix. Use a rubber washer from the pcb, then a metal washer on top of that. Then the screw is then screwed in. Easy fix.

So far the only thing I hate is micro-stuttering. I'm using 13.1 WHQL and they say micro stuttering is fixed in 13.2 beta. I'm getting smooth gameplay in Witcher 2, BF3, NFS RUN, Ghost Recon, AC3, Metro.. Farcry 3 on high settings 4xMSAA, SSAA, and VSYINC 1 frame with AA.. Getting solid 60fps but can't get past that. Game becomes choppy in very high and ultra. AC3 in Boston my FPS drops low as 29.. I hope AMD do something to fix this frame time issues soon because I'm not upgrading this till the end of 2015 and wanna play at medium-high with no stuttering and occasional frame skipping..

I have fixed my HD7950 DC2 TOP with adding 2mm thick plastic washers under the screws.

Now my card is OC'd @ 1050/1750MHz and my GPU temp in games is max 58C (Fan hits 38% with my profile)

Yes it's possible to solve the issue with this fix ,and then DC2 cooler becomes the best there is for HD7950 cards.

@ stock speeds 900/1250MHz and stock fan profile (max hits 20%) gaming temps are kept under 60C and card is DEAD SILENT !!!

No worry on memory overclock despite the lack of passive cooling on memory chips, I keep my memory @ 1750MHz for 24/7 operation (max stable on my card is 1850MHz for memory on stock 1.6V)

You can also see my GPU temp while playing Crysis 3 @ 1100/1750MHz (1.112V) and max temp was 60C.

Okay so they told me that I don't need to use washers since the cooler is spring-loaded. I thought I'd have to use washers but now I think I'll do fine. @ 30% fan speed and 925Mhz/1250Mhz my temp hangs around 53'C (LOL I'm replaying Dragon Age) but it's a bit noisy without the headphones. At 20% it's very silent and the temp sit on 60'C for hours..
I faced this temp problem with ASUS GPU TWEAK which would crash my games here and there. With Afterburner I'm looking at a very stable OC and temp monitoring. Could it be that only GPU Tweak knows how to address GPU sensors properly and maybe Afterburner is getting false temps because it doesn't know how to?
Also is there any MOD that wouldn't void the warranty to help cooling VRAMs?

Using ASUS GPU Tweak would crash my system even on stock clock. Games start showing artifacts when I up just 25Mhz.. With Afterburner I get much better stability, I OCd to 950Mhz and card is stable. Temp is at 55'C and fans set to 30%. Bit noisy but gets the job done.. I have no idea which one is good but atm I'm into MSI AB so much..

Springs on screws them self are not enough because they're too weak and cooler is to heavy for them.

You can see what's really happening when such heavy cooler hangs on the PCB of the card, those springs are just too weak.

Using 2mm thick plastic washers + springs is the way to increase the pressure on the GPU and for low temperatures.
