ASUS HD 7970 Ghz suddenly gets no signal, with no boot or beep at all.

So, I built my first PC just over a year ago. These are included in the build:

- i5-4670 3.4 GHz
- Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H ATX LGA1150
- Corsair 8GB (2x4) DDR3
- ASUS Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB
- Corsair CX 600w 80+ Bronze Semi Modular ATX Power Supply

The computer has run perfectly since I built in in October 2013. Never had a single problem with the build, with any drivers, games, etc. Never even crashed once. Anyway, I finished playing a game a couple days ago, and left the computer at the desktop while I went to get my hair cut. I come back home, black screen. Computer still running, everything on, but a black screen. I turn it off and back on..... no signal.....no startup beep.

So, I started googling my problem and clicking on results, most of which took me to this site. I read through a bunch of the standard no signal troubleshooting checklists and have it narrowed down to the GPU.

First I tried out both sticks of RAM. No beep/no boot with either stick in any slot, however when both sticks are removed I get the usual beeping/reboot memory error.

Running a DVI from the MoBo to the monitor works! That's actually what I'm typing this from. Because of that, I feel like I can rule out the MoBo, Monitor, and RAM. Also, just in case anyone was wondering: yes, I have tried the unplug and hold power button for 30-60sec trick, as well as resetting the Bios by pulling out the battery and also putting a screwdriver to the prongs. No dice.

The problem remains: Any time I try to run the display from my 7970 the computer doesn't boot whatsoever. No beep from the little speaker. No action on the monitor at all. When running from the MoBo, it works, provided I remove the 2 6+2 PCI prongs from the GPU (hope that makes sense). When they're plugged in, I get no beep/no boot even if I'm trying to run from the MoBo. This leads me to speculate that it could be a PSU problem (my wallet hopes so).

Notes:

- The GPU does run when it's plugged in. All LEDs, fans, every piece of hardware seems to work, just no beep/signal.
- As mentioned above, when the GPU is plugged in, its LEDs are green, which means (I think) that it is getting sufficient power. When I umplug the 2 6+2 prongs, the LEDs change to red, but the computer is then able to boot up from the MoBo. This confuses the heck out of me.
- Yes I have ensured that everything is wired properly and connected securely
- I have uninstalled and re-installed the latest updates for every driver I can think of. No changes at all.

At this point, I'm pretty much out of ideas outside of trying a new power supply, but I don't have access to one. I'll have to just buy new parts, so I'm posting here as a last resort to see if anyone has other ideas. Thanks in advance.

Hey I know this is an old thread but having the same problem. Every single freaking forum I click on and spend all the time reading it is a dead end. No one ever post what the fix was. Hoping she's not dead but I'm starting to think she is. Running off a rx460 4gb at the moment I'm impressed but really want the 7970 back. Same model as yours. Also I have the same model psu are you. only mine is a 750. corsair cx750m is what I have.
