I am looking to upgrade this PC I use basically just for the point of upgrading.... It's been a while since I played with hardware but I am finding what I consider conflicting information.
Many posts and manuals have said the board supports many processors which I found strange but whatever. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest Asus Version.
The memory installed is PC6400 which is 800FSB. There are only two types of memory supported on this board PC5300 and PC6600. If my memory serves me correctly, the CPU FSB needs to match the speed of the memory correct? If that is the case I don't understand how a CPU with a 1066FSB will work properly.
I currently have an E5300 2.66 installed, I would like to move up to a quad core or at least more cache on the chip. I don't want to have to change the memory though but not sure I even can if I wanted to.
If I can toss in any processor then so be it, but I want to know before I buy it.
