ASUS is telling me 650 watts is not enough for MOBO + GPU

I just called ASUS per GPU is not being detected by MOBO.

I have Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 for a MOBO and NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti for GPU.

16 G DDR (2x8g)
Corsair case (with MOBO... 5 fans)
Intel i5

HDD 1T
Optical drive is low end DVD

PSU is 650...

Is she not lying to me?

650 watt PSU is more than enough for an i5 and a GTX 750 . You can even run that system on a 450 watt or 500 watt PSU .

Might be a fool employee if he said that. A good quality 450w is more than enough for your PC. ... And 750ti only needs power from PCI-e slot,no PCI-E cable is needed for that.

Try your GPU in another PCI-e slot of motherboard, also try in different system. If nothing changes, replace it.

So, We got a new motherboard... now running the evga z170 ftw... and we are having the same issues. Tried GPU in an existing computer set up (one that already had geforce experience on it... it detected, downloaded driver, and had it running within no time), and it works just fine.

Someone is telling me the fact that we are using the intel i5 gen6 is the reason... that we have to set bios to gen1, 2, or 3 instead of auto. I have tried that, still not detecting the gpu.

SO, I have done the following: Reset CMOS, upgraded BIOS, removed and reset gpu, set pcie slot to peg instead of itgfx, moved to another pcie slot, and more I likely forgot.

This is our first build and it is extremely frustrating... we have replaced parts and worked on this for 2 months now. Shoulda just bought a prebuilt.

Oh, and the 750 ti has dual fans and a place to connect the 6pin psu cable... is there something I am doing wrong with the power? Should we be overclocking?

plug in the 6 pin if you haventbeen. it needs it (mosty for the fans and/or factoy overclock), though I'm sure you already are.

All the z170 boards ive built on post prior to post splash screen they show the video card in simple dos. Does it show anything? If not while in windows in device manager there is a scan for new hardware button, click that and see if anything comes up. What version of windows are you running? Is your psu modular? If so are the pcie power cables attached in the right place securely. Try a different pcie power lead.

Should have clarified this better, are the PCI-E power leads plugged into the right spot in the power supply, this only applies to you if your PSU is modular.

A 650PSU is definitely enough for your build. Did you ever figure out your issue on why your MOBO was not detecting your video card?
