I've been trying to figure out the girlfriends laptop, been boot looping, not installing windows updates and things of that nature. I thought fresh start with windows 8 would help, but I was seeing some of the same issues of not installing updates.

I looked into bios updates, couldn't use the asus easy flash utility (denied it was asus laptop?) so I tried using the bios update via F4 on reboot. It was working away, i closed the lid and let it do its own thing (so i thought). I came back to a completely unresponsive laptop, will not boot, will not show signs of power via the status LEDs.

I disassembled and removed the cmos battery for about 10 minutes and that didn't even help me. What can I do at this point? Am I to the finale where I get my beating from the girlfriend and have to pick up a new laptop OR a used motherboard?

Solution
pretty much looks like broken motherboard if you find a motherboard that works with your laptop or if you dont find a motherboard then pretty much you need to buy a new motherboard

So new parts or new ride it is...

What causes this anyway? In a nutshell, I guess i'm trying to figure out if I am at fault or is there a contributing factor that helped create my mishap?

Can I grab a k53e model on ebay that has an i3, and swap my i5?

yes you can grab a k53e with i3 and switch to i5 but for more help i cant help you because i dont know much abount bios and mobo things
