My Asus laptop says it cannot play dvds because of something to do with the settings? what do I need to change in settings for it to work?

Solution
I assume you are running with Win8, 8.1, or 10 which do not have the proper codecs to play dvd's built in.
You can install any playback software you want most are paid for apps, VLC which is good and Free, install k-lite codec pack which should get media player working, or pay MS the fee and download Media Center which will also play dvd's just fine.
