Asus laptop windows 8 mousepad doesn't work

my asus laptop's mouse pad doesn't work for some reason. i didn't touch anything but all of a sudden my mouse pad doesn't work. if i plug in my external mouse then it the mouse on the screen appears and works but if i start using the mouse pad it doesn't work again. i click fn + f9 but nothing changes and i restart my laptop but still it the same. How do i fix this?

by fn + f9 you mean toggling the trackpad lock on and off?
if it's new, then, try bringing it back to the store you just bought it from

Try updating your bios with the included ASUS live update utility application then reinstalling your ATK touchpad drivers through the manufacturers support page. The trackpad ribbon cable could also be reseated as well. Let us know how everything goes.
