News Asus launches budget-friendly overclocking motherboard — Z790-AYW WIFI W debuts with DDR5-8000+ support

That's not the only board ASUS is releasing. The model which you mentioned only comes in an all-white board design, and supports only up to DDR5 8000+(OC) speed by default.

But this particular model is the actual OC board they are targeting. Z790-AYW OC WIFI, with support for DDR5-8400+ (OC) memory, on two DIMM slots.

ASUS claimed they can squeeze out 11550 MT/s of memory speeds on this board, utilizing the capabilities of liquid nitrogen cooling. And, South Korean overclocker, SAFEDISK, also mentioned the great memory OC capabilities of this new board, achieving 8800 MT/s with OC.

As per ASUS, these are the figures which you can expect with different cooling solutions, including liquid nitrogen/LN2::
  • AIO360: i5-14600k_DDR5-8200 MTpass
  • AIO360: i9-14900k_DDR5-8200 oc to DDR5-8400 MTpass
  • Chiller: i9-13900k_DDR5-8800 MT pass
  • Chiller: i9-14900k_DDR5-8800 MT pass
  • AIR: i5-14600k_ChBDDR5-10000 boot
  • LN2: i9-14900KF_DDR5-11150

By the way, AYW stands for " As You Wish", just in case anyone didn't know.

Forgot to mention, the above OC board's price expected to be around the $300 USD ballpark! A bit on the expensive side. The one mentioned in the article should cost under $250 though.

I guess price segmentation done due to the board's higher OC capabilities (Z790-AYW OC WIFI).

Looks like this board would have been intended to compete with the likes of MSI's MPower, but that one still hasn't launched as far as I know. I'd love to see more 2 DIMM board options in general as these don't have good enough VRM for what I'd be looking at.
