These are very expensive compared to the Alienware Alphas, which are already pretty expensive for what you get until you factor in the size. Personally I'd still be inclined towards the Alpha as both have modest specs, but the Alpha's entry level model seems like better value (especially if you pop in an extra 4gb RAM yourself for an extra $30 or so).

I wish someone would make a steam box or PC console that can do a solid 60fps at 1080p high resolution but is not $800! They should be able to do that at the $550 range.

I own an Alpha, its a great little system. I actually sold off my 4670k and 660 SLI rig for it. The small for factor is great for bringing to a friends house for some emulation gaming (ssbm 😉 ). The Alpha also uses a desktop 1150 socket so the processor can be upgraded to any Haswell part, your only limiting factor is the non overclockable bios and an original tdp of 35w for the T model Haswells CPUs. Like Bob Hays said, dual core with hyper-threading is fantastic paired with an 860/960m

Do you mean that it's limited to 35w or only the original cpu's are 35w and you can put in a normal desktop i7?

It will throttle a 4790k, but iy will operate just fine. There is a owners thread on overclock.net for the alpha. In there guys have tried a lot of combinations of desktop cpus. Another member was able to get the 54w i3 4370 to run full speed. It seems that if you are around 35-54w you can expect full processor speed. Another limiting factor is the cooling, wich is only spec'd for around 35w

I too own an alpha but the i7 version and fitted an ssd into it. Its a great little pc and plays most games well at 1080p. The i3 alpha is far better value for money than the i7 however i just fancied a bit more cpu grunt. The sweet spot is probably the i5

there is only one console that matters, it's called a LAPTOP the 750Ti stops the mobile gpu processor market, the only reason for the switch to the 960m is for less power and less heat while having an onboard soldered on gpu.
not even 5 year olds play consoles any more, there's tablets these days, consoles are dead in every sense of the gaming industry, they need to be phased out because mobile is going to over run them faster than 3 zerg hive rush on a newly established human base.
