Asus M2N-X Plus support

Hello guys, I've been wondering of buying a new cpu for my M2N-X Plus as my AMD Athlon 4000+ is really shit. After seeing my brother buy a Phenom II x4 9650, I was really interested and I may buy it, only one thing. I don't know if my M2N-X Plus supports the 9650. And if not, can you guys tell me any other good quad core cpus that are cheap for my mobo?

9650 is not Phenom II (2) but old Phenom, Only Phenom II with similar numbers is 965. Neither of them would work in your MB.

Phenom X4 9150 (HD9150ODJ4BGH),1.8GHz,65W,rev.B3,SocketAM2+,Quad-Core

Phenom X4 9350 (HD9350ODJ4BGH),2.0GHz,65W,rev.B3,SocketAM2+,Quad-Core

Phenom X4 9450 (HD9450ODJ4BGH),2.1GHz,65W,rev.B3,SocketAM2+,Quad-Core

And those ones are very iffy, I had that MB once upon a time and it was overheating even with dual core.

Could I maybe fit an AM3 cpu, as I've just found out that they're backward compatible. I will update my mobo's bios before getting one, to update the cpu support. I might go for a Phenom gen 2

AM3 processors are backward compatible with AM2+ and this MB is no +.

So, Should I go for a faster Dual Core (Athlon x2 64) or just the fastest quad core phenom which is supported (Phenom 9450)
