M3N78-VM
BIOS Ver 1009
430w Power Supply
Windows 7 64/Ultimate
AMD AM+2 6000+ 64x2 Dual Core
4g {KVR800D2N6/2G} DDR2
PCIe 2.0 x16
I know this is an old board but I was running a E GeForce 9500GT 1g DDR2 witch ran find at the time I had a VGA monitor , I switch over to a 32 LCD and had to remove my old video card to go back on my motherboards GeForce 8200 witch has a HDMI hook up.
I would like to get a newer video card and been looking at a
PCIe2.0 x 16 eVGA GT-730-2GB P/N: 02G-P3-3733-KR {http://www.evga.com/products/Product.aspx?pn=02G-P3-3733-KR} and wounder if it would be worth getting ,
I am adding 2 more 2g of memory to have a tally of 8g's all together for my windows 7 64.
just your thoughts thanks

The gt 730 is good buy, because you have the 430W PSU that is good for the gt 730, also it is better than either 9500gt or GeForce 8200. But you may hold on to buy the DDR2 memory, because it should be expensive and is old version so that it is not compatible to other new MB. But if you can get the low price for the DDR2 then buy it.
Also the GPU will be compatible to other new MB, if you want to upgrade the PC, you can use it for the new PC.

Will I got the memory for $28. for 2g each and match what I have on board now. Best Buy has on sell for $25. each but are PNY didn't want to take a chance not working . I've never thought of getting a new motherboard for my CPU , I thought it was too old! What kind of motherboards are compatible for my CPU?

So I just got my new Memory 2g DDR2 and they work great! Window's pick up at 7.50GB usable , So now next will be a video card with the HDMI , So far I like the eVGA GT-730-2GB

So I just got my memory in the mail and they work great , From my 2009 memory to 2014 new memory and now with 8GB on my old board next would be a nice video card .
Is the AMD AM+2 6000+ 64x2 Dual Core the highest cpu for this motherboard {BIOS Ver 1009} ?

Back to video card on the GT 730 , it comes in 3 types Graphics card version
DDR3, 128-bit GT 730
DDR3, 64-bit GT 730
GDDR5, 64 bit GT 730
I was looking at the GDDR5 GT 730 but read it might not work with the M3N78-VM been outdated it gave a rating of 3.4 but for a Phenom II x4 965 CPU it gave me a rating of a 8.1 Compatible . Should I just stay with the DDR3, 64-bit GT 730 video card. Or should I be looking at 600 or 500 video card with a 2.0 x 16 PCIe

The gt730 GDDR5 GPU was built on 28 nm process, if it has similar price and get it. But just like you said the MB BIOS is outdated so that they maybe not compatible.
So you are better to stay with the ddr3 gt730, but if you know you can return the gt730 GDDR5 GPU if they are not compatible, because it is worth to try. Or you will think about to update the MB to AM3+. And you can use the Phenom IIX4 or Phenom II X6, but you need the new DDR3 RAM.

Will I just updated my BIOS to the 1801 rev with out a hitch and was able to win a bid on a Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (HDZ965FBK4DGI) Processor witch will be in next week, I need to look for a decent CPU fan , I think I can use my stock that I have now until I get a better one.

The Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (HDZ965FBK4DGI) is the 140W version, other one is the 125W version Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGM),3.4GHz. So as long as you update the BIOS to 1801, then you will be fine, but I recommend to don't oc it like crazy, because the MB support up to the TDP 140W cpu. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3N78VM/specifications/

Will I just got my cpu in today and my Cool Master 212 will be here today also from Fedx. My cpu was sold as a "HDZ965FBK4DGI" ON eBAY but what I got when I open the box was a "HDZ965FBK4DGM"
Is the HDZ965FBK4DGI a second gen. 2
an the HDZ965FBK4DGM a gen. 3 ?

Back to video card , This board is a PCIe x16 not a 2.0 PCIe x16 if so what would be the best PCIe x16 video card to get with a HDMI? Because what I wanted to get was a PCIe 2.0 x16 an that will not work?

Will it be OK to use my MSI R9 280X that I just pick up with this old board?
this site gave it a 4.5 rating.
It will be just until I get new memory and mother board and a FX CPU as soon as I can , I already got a new PSU Super Nova 850w that will handle the GPU?

Will I got my MSI R9 280X and my Super Nova 850w install with my old motherboard and it look's amazing what a difference from the on-board gpu . Now I need a wider case , I have to leave my side panel off becuse my cpu cooler is about 6"1/2 long and my gpu is very long and I have some cables hanging out a little , my case now is only 7"1/4 wide.
