Hi,

I've been using an ASUS M4A78LT-M board with 1 x 2 Gb RAM stick for months on XP with no problems. I'm about to install Win 7 64 bit and have bought 2 additional 2 Gb sticks (same speed, but different manufacturer as the original stick).

Please could you let me know whether i can use the new sticks along with the original (for 6 Gb total) and, if so, which DIMM slots i should put them in (out of A1, A2, B1 and B2)?

Or should i just stick with the matching 2 x 2 Gb sticks?

Welcome to Tom's Forum! :)

Use the 'Blue' DIMM slots A1 + B1 for Dual channel.

Mixing RAM is generally a bad idea, and the RAM should be purchased in sets of 2 or 4 to insure best performance and problem free.

However, buying 1, 2, 3 individual sticks is about the worst choice you can make. RAM is dirt cheap. Ideally, purchase a 2x4GB kit of DDR3-1333 which is the simplest for most AMD set-ups or DDR3-1600 for the Phenom IIX4 or X6 CPUs with DOCP.
