I just bought two sticks of 4 gb of ram and the QVL is from 09 and only shows sticks of 2gb. Would it fry my pc if I used two sticks of 4 gb ram?

ASUS M4A78T-E is the motherboard and Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL is the ram I bought
I'm really worried it will mess my pc up if I try to use it.

*UPDATE* I'm not sure if this is my motherboard but I checked Gskills compatibility page
http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator?manu=29&chip=48&m...
I'm not sure what the difference is between M4A78T-E and M4A78T

Memory
4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture
*AMD AM3 100 and 200 series CPU support up to DDR3 1066MHz

Based on the above, [strike]I am going to say that it should be able to support 4 sticks of 4GB [/strike]DDR3 at speeds between 1066 and 1600. 1600 was considered an overclock back then, so that might be the toughest speed to get working.

I would remove the 2gb sticks, and replace them with the 4gb sticks. Then power up and see what happens. If it boots up and everything appears to be stable, then you have doubled your memory. If it doesnt boot, then you have your answer. I looked at the DVL, and agree with you that its likely not to work, but I see no problem in trying it.

can you link the ram you're using on your build?
[Ripjaws] F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL was the ram I had selected for my m4a78t-e MB

Can you direct me to a guide on how to update bios if I need to do that. I havent recieved the ram I've ordered as of yet

So I went to asus website to download the bios and no problem their but there bios updater tool doesn't even exist when you try to download it ~_~

*UPDATE* I may have found the bios updater in some obscure vip forum for asus

So I updated my bios in anticipation of getting my ram and now my cpu is running hotter than ever. I imagine my current ram is dying..along with that my pc is randomly freezing now

I did not overclock everything is on auto and its running at 46c but the cpu usage is spiking to 80% and randomly freezing since I updated the bios for the motherboard and from what I read you cannot revert bios changes =( everything was stable before now things are just derp

I'm pretty sure I did that. I removed the battery for over 15 minutes and tried to restore factory defaults but my bios was still updated. if you have any suggestions im all ears!

I would like to request this thread closed. I ended up building a new pc but the ram did work fine and if you update your motherboards bios you HAVE to update windows or reinstall the operating system. I hope if anyone else has this problem this post may help them in the future.

Also you cannot downgrade bios for asus motherboards so be sure you want to update them before you do if you have no way of reinstalling windows.

Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting! Usually, after updating BIOS, the operating system doesn't require updating or re-installation. But in this case here, it seems the updated BIOS has had some (indirect) effect on the operating system.

Sometimes there are (detailed) notes accompanying BIOS updates which should explain what changes were made to the BIOS and possibly what other requirements there are regarding the updated BIOS.
