Hi,

I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to give me some advice. My mobo is the ASUS M4A87TD EVO and I currently have the Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 fitted.

Would like to buy the Samsung 2.5-Inch 250 GB 850 EVO Solid State Drive to put my OS and games on. My question is am I able to have both hard drives fitted with this motherboard and how do I install/connect them so the SSD is my main partition and the Seagate is used for storage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

They are compatible assuming your case has enough room for all these drives.
Connecting them is rather easy. Every OS will allow you to set your partitions up exactly how you like them the first time it boots up. You could also easily do this through a partition manager.

Thanks for the reply.

My case should have enough room as there are loads of empty bays at the moment

Do I just connect the SSD to the power supply and then to the mobo?

Is it worth doing raid 1 configuration for backing up the SSD?

Okay so basically, SSDs are 2.5 inches wide and HDDs are 3.5 inches long (MOST OF THE TIME). Most standard drive bays in a case will be 3.5 inches wide. So some people will get an adapter to slip your SSD in so it fits nicely into the drive bay, but I don't think that that's necessary. I would just find a secure way to mount it into your computer so it doesn't move around. Note: the adapters do make the computer look much nicer because having a SSD taped randomly inside the case isn't particularly attractive. Watch this video for all the information that you need (only watch the first 3 minutes, the rest isn't important) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox6DHlPQI-w

Thanks NBE for the advice. I will watch the video soon and attempt the install when my new SSD arrives. I have already ordered the adapter as you suggested, so hopefully it is nice and sturdy and looks good as well. I will let you know how I get on.
