ASUS M4A89GTD Pro
serial # A3M0AC336360
purchased 10/21/2010
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Processor (AM3)
BIOS version 2101 dated 04/08/2011
Windows 7 pro 64 bit
J Skills 1066 DDR in 2 sticks of 4 Gb each

This build has been very stable since it was first built. 2 days ago it hung after a Windows update and refused to shut down. Once I turned off the power, it would not POST.

I bread-boarded the motherboard after it refused to POST. I cleared the CMOS and got it to POST by moving the memory around from slot #1 to Slot # 2. I finally got to where it will post with only 4Gb of memory installed. Doesn't matter which stick I use or which slot I use as long as it is #1 or 2.

In BIOS I have all default settings. No unlock or Turbo selected. When I add the second stick of 4 Gb the MOBO powers up refuses to POST. MEM Ok does not work to resolve the memory issue. Flashes red at a steady rate till I power down the MOBO. During boot up MEM OK flashes once and then I hear a single beep for POST.
Finally I figured out once the MOBO hangs I can get it to POST by removing and replacing the single DRAM in another slot...say if originally in slot #1 then I use slot #2 and it boots. No CMOS clearing required.

Using the on board video. Removed my Gigabyte HD 5830 card, DVD player disconnected

In BIOS, power info is within specs; I had suspected bad power supply. ASUS diagnostic shows me everything running well. Tried to update the BIOS using EZ flash utility in the BIOS. EZ Flash won't update beyond what I have.

Right now I have Windows 7 Pro running after troubleshooting. , Seagate 500 Mb SATA hard drive.

I use this box for day trading options. No games but lots of chart screens up

Ideas? Is this the memory controller and I am looking at a new MOBO/CPU/ Memory?

About an hour after posting on the forum, the computer stopped working after going into sleep mode and now will not POST

Turned off power, unplugged the power cord, pulled out the DRAM memory and reseated it in exact same slot and MOBO posted. Went to windows.
