Title says it all, how well can I overclock with ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS mobo, and an FX-6300 CPU? I will be purchasing an aftermarket cooler for overclocking.

My specs:
AMD FX-6300
MSI R9 270 gaming 2GB
ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS motherboard
Corsair CX500
Kingston Hyper X Blu 1600mhz 4GB

Cheers

well the board is tested for 125watt cpu's thats not terrible ur fx6300 is 95watt stock. I would disable turbo mode. set cpu voltage to 1.38 this is less than turbo voltage. and overclock to 4 - 4.2ghz. then test if its stable dont use prima 95! this could be to much load for ur vrms go play a game if its stable for an hour stap back 1 voltage step in ur bios and try again. keep doing this untim you bsod. then go back up 2 steps of voltage and keep it there. if you bsod some times ike 2 times a week 1 voltage step up again till its 100% stable.

I have ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS FX-6300 and with stock cooling i am at 4.5GHz at 1.46vcore, runs at 70c-75c very hot but stable enough to run benchmarks. for a cheap board and cheap cpu you cant expect much more. it's a decent buget build. runs any game at max settings. im currently using an r9 270 i picked up for $150 shipped. plays any game ive thrown at it. the cpu overclocks well and for a $50 mobo u cant ask for more. but as others said it not the best overlocking motherboard. but you can get a decent overclock out of it. 4.4ghz by just adjusting multipler and auto everything else on stock cooling in Arizona none the less in summer time lol

Hello all. Here are my specs and my overclocking for a new budget build. Hopefully this will help and maybe I can get some input from the community on this build which seems very solid for the cost. My goal was conservative overclocking.

Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS
AMD FX-6300
MSI R9 270x 2gb
EVGA 600B
4gb Crucial Ballistix
CoolerMaster hyper 212 evo
One 120mm case fan

Im currently running the Fx-6300 overclocked at 4400MHz with auto putting Bus at 200MHz and stock 1.425v. Under a full load in Prime95 for an hour or so cpu temp doesn't exceed 50c and my mobo stays around 54-55c. Ive been able to get the R9 270x to overclock at 1180 core 1500 memory and be stable for ulta playing wow and long sessions of Heaven on ultra with 4x anti and 1440-900 resolution. i did increase the Power % to +20 and +6v. Its stable here but if I go to 1200MHz core I get crashes even with a +13v jump so i decided to back off. Temp held fine under 65c with moderate fan adjustments. My fan doesn't run over 60% until I reach over 70c. So its pretty quiet, All in all I think for the price of the mobo ive been able to do some decent overclocking without high temps, but thats why i got a good cpu cooler. for $35 on sale its a must have if you want to fiddle at all. : ) Any questions please reply as i appreciate input.

edit - oh and i agree those temps are way too hot for your mobo.

Hate to bring up an old thread, I'm running 4400 everything else stock on this rig as well however my temps are in the low thirties under max load. However, I have a corsair h60 liquid cooler and I would like to push my voltage and clocks a bit more.

The cpu is quoted as reaching as much as 8 core and 5.0 ghz. If the boards thermals are the issue will me cooler let me get crazy our will I be throttled by the bus?

I would agree with BlackBird here i just tried cpu overclocking with the stock cooler and even the smallest overclock would fail. Installing Turbo Key works fine though. In essence with my specs below you should be able to play virtually any game to date.

Specs:
M5a78l-m lx plus
Kingston Hyper X FURY 8x1 1866mhz
FX 8320 3.7 ghz turbo key
R9 280 Dual-X

LOL obviously you don't know how the internet works buddy.
