Hey, folks! I have an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 / FX-8350 combo and am trying to figure out how to get optimal stock bios settings (not all the auto settings). I've been watching madmatt30's posts and noticed he had some interesting suggestions for ensuring things don't unnecessarily overload, which will keep temps low. Provided I'm not OC'ing, have Turbo disabled, Cool/Quiet enabled, Manual fans set to 100% at 60C, I'm wondering if the auto settings may be implementing higher-than-necessary voltages and loads.

I play Counter Strike: Global Offensive ("CS:GO," a cpu-intensive game), but it doesn't use more than 50% or so CPU on max load. Any ideas on optimal manual bios settings?

I think what you're trying to get at is to undervolt your system or literally key in the right voltage for your processor so that your processor isn't drawing more power unnecessarily and thus having lower temps when on the stock cooler.

It's simple, you can download the AMD power states application and verify what the power requirements are for your CPU. I would like to stress though that anything you do from this point forward will be pinned on you so if you're unsure, it's best to leave it alone until you're confident in doing any tinkering.

On another note, the power delivery area is all but baron...

On another note, the power delivery area is all but baron and can be a fire hazard if you're working on the Vishera processor for a prolonged period(ofc you can't overclock on it due to this very reason) but pointing a fan towards the general direction of the power regulators around the CPU socket would be a good idea.

You would also be served two fold by investing in a top down cooler like the Be Quiet! Dark Rock TF CPU cooler.
