I am having issues with what I believe is a relatively recent problem, has not persisted since I built the PC in october.
resmon, and msinfo32 both report that of the 8gb installed ram only 3.9gb is usable.
I am using
asus M5A97 le r2.0
amd fx 8350 8core
nvidia gtx 660
2x4gb patriot ddr3 1600mhz, model number PV38G160C9K
using the top rated answer from this similar thread http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1700683/asus-m5a97-memory-problem.html I went into bios, loaded default optimized settings, and set ai overclock to manual and set memory frequency to 1600mhz. This resolves the issue and when the pc restarts the full 8gb are visable and only 100mb is hardware reserved. CPU-Z also reports dual channel on the memory page.
However after proper reboot (turn off, wait a while, turn on) the changes to the bios are reverted and the system again can only use 3.9gb of memory.
I know the patriot PV38G160C9K is not on the asus M5A97 le r2.0 qvl list however I read in this thread http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=10566 that such lists are not the be all and end all. And also the fact that this problem did not used to occur and is fixed on a system start after having fiddled with bios leads me to believe that not being on the qvl is not the issue.
Please help, this is very frustrating. First time builder and not willing to go out and buy more memory that is on the asus approved list if this issue is actually caused by something else.
