Asus m5a97 r 2.0 no sound

I just built my computer and everything is working but the sound. i am running Windows 7 64-bit pro and I am using a Gigabyte Radeon r9 270 oc video card and have a hdmi cable going from it to my tv.

when ever i go to playback devices all but Realtek digital output says "Not Plugged In". i have checked all the volume levels and they are fine and un-muted. I have installed the drivers that came on the video card cd and the motherboard cd. I get no sound what so ever

Method 1: Follow these steps to set the device as Default Device
1. Click on Start-> Control Panel-> Click on Hardware and Sound-> Now click on Sound.
2. Now under the Playback tab-> Right click in the blank space-> Select both "Show Disabled devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
3. Now right Click on HDMI Output. Click on Properties-> Under the General tab click on "Device Usage" and select "Use this Device: (enable)". Click Apply. Click OK.
4. Repeat Step 1 and in the step 2 -> Under the Playback tab-> Click on HDMI Output and “Set as Default”.
5. Click Apply. Click OK
