I have mobo M5A97 r2.0 running Windows 7 64 bit. Everything works except the USB 3.0. Device Manager sees the ASMedia Host Controller, the ports provide power, but won't work with any of my USB devices which work fine if connected to USB 2.0 ports on same computer. Under BIOS, my devices are not recognized when connected to the USB 3.0 ports, but they are seen by BIOS if connected to USB 2.0 ports.I am talking about the ports in the back of the computer. I don't have a front USB 3.0 port to try, but I think it would be the same issue.

I saw a few messages on this site for similar problems and followed the suggestions, I searched and found some other places where people had/have same issues. I updated BIOS to the latest version 1903 from Asus website, updated firmware of the controller, updated the driver to 1.16.xx (both firmware and driver found from station-drivers.com). I contacted Asus support who told me to downgrade to driver version 1.14.xx. I checked BIOS and everything was enabled or setup properly. I also tried Windows 8 pro 64 bit.

Yet still have problem, USB 3.0 ports won't work.

Can any of you out there help? Or do you have another idea? besides returning the board?

Thanks a lot for any help or suggestion.

Hi, I have the earlier M5A07 R1.02 Board, but experience the same issues. Am trying to use the USB3.0 to drive a Displaylink chip in a Targus SuperSpeed Dual Video 7m away from the actual PC the ultimate aim of having a remotely operated PC (but without the PC box), with KVM + Audio. I have upgraded the Mobo bios to latest - got all the drivers to the latest, but the system will only work from USB2.0 ports. The USB 3.0 port is ok for running memory sticks etc.

Having said all of this I look in the manual (RTFM) where it says..."USB 3.0 devices can only be uised for data storage only" Section 2.32 - oh and this is in the manual for the R2. So whether this is absolutely true, I don't know but am planning to get a 3.0 PCIe card and looking for the best one that can do video over it !

Hi Werner123,
I think you confused me with Davidjm3. But anyway, thank you all for replying. Clearing the CMOS still didn't help because the ports never worked, even from BIOS.
I replaced the motherboard with another one (same model) and had the same problem. I then replaced my PSU (400W) with a new one (650W) and the ports started to work. So far I haven't had a problem.
Before buying the PSU and replacing the board, I had bought a PCIe card with 2 USB 3.0 ports which worked just fine. The funny thing is the ports from the PCIe card even work faster than the built-in ones (50's MB/s vs 30-40MB/s) for the same drive and file (a single 40GB iso file). On my Dell XPS 18, the transfer rate is ~ 90MB/s for this file. I was expecting the built-in USB 3.0 ports on the desktop (with 8-core FX8350 AMD CPU + 8GB RAM + dedicated Graphics card) to outperform the Dell tablet and the PCIe card, but it turned out to be the slowest.

Again, thank you, Werner123 and Davidjm3, for giving suggestion/workaround.

Hi, try clearing the CMOS, after that go back to bios and reload the optimized defaults, save changes and exit. If its still not working, uninstall the Asmedia drivers, go to device manager and uninstall the ASMedia Host Controller, restart and install the latest drivers from Asus's website."

Thank you. Clearing the CMOS helped in my case. I own M5A97 EVO R2.0. One USB Hub 3.0 didn't work at all, and the other one worked occasionally.
