Hi,

I have a desktop computer with ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard which worked perfectly for three years, but now it is required to reset the power supply for several times (20-30 sometimes) in order the system to boot. When the computer boots it will work for many hours without a problem so I don't think it is a hardware issue.

During the unsuccessful boot there is no beep from the speaker and no signal on the monitor. With the memory removed the system works as expected: it produces endless beeps, so probably the early booting stages go correctly. However without a video card the system doesn't produce error beeps.

Could you please advise how to test the system more and find out what is wrong there?

Thanks,
Alexei

Motherboard: M5A97 R2.0 Rev. 1.00
BIOS: American Megatrends, ver. 1903
Processor: AMD FX-6300 Six-Core
Memory: Kingston DIMM DDR3 2048MB 1333 MHz, 2 modules, total 4 GB
Videocard: nVidia GT200 [GeForce GTX 260]
Hard disk: Seagate ST3500320AS 500 GB

No overclocking

How about the PSU? Model? or may try other GPU if you have one.

And do you try use only one stick memory to boot the PC? Try boot into the safe mode, if you don't have problem when you boot the pc into safe mode, the problem maybe from the software or drivers.

The PSU is OSZ 600SXS 600W.

I'll try to boot with one stick, thanks for the idea (don't have another GPU ...).
But what makes me doubt it is a hardware problem is the irreproachable work of the computer after the successful boot under heavy load for many hours. And definitely it is not an OS-related problem: during the incorrect boot there are no POST messages so no OS component is involved yet.

you are right.

And you may try use the minimum hardware, like one stick memory, one hard drive with the OS, GPU to boot the PC. If you don't have other GPU may consider to borrow one from your friend. Or may go to local PC shop ask for help to test the MB too.

Well, upgrading bios to ver. 2603 seems to solve this issue. Though I don't think the actual problem has been fixed. The computer worked fine with previous bios for three years until it stopped booting and probably that may happen again with the new bios :(.
