ASUS M5A97 with Radeon 7850?

I just built a (partly) new PC, the only things that aren't new are my old HDDs and Nvidia 9500GT. I want to upgrade the graphics card to a Sapphire Radeon 7850 1GB now but I am not sure if it will work with the mobo since it is for PCIe2.0 and the graphics card is for PCIe3.0. Also, would it be possible to use the 7850 with the 9500GT?

Yep, no problem, the PCI-E 3 cards are backward compatible, (don't understand why AMD doesn't have more mobos with PCI-E3 they've had PCI-E3 GPUs for quite a while
