ASUS M5A99FX incorrectly recognizing MSI R9-270X OC

I bought components and built myself a new gaming pc. Here are the specs:
Mobo: ASUS M5A99FX
CPU: AMD FX-8350
GPU: MSI R9-270X OC
RAM: 16GB 2133mHz DDR3
(the rest doesn't really matter)

Anyway, it's finished, and it has a major problem. Everything works fine up to the graphics card. In device manager, it shows up as "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" I've already reinstalled windows 8 and the drivers so those are out of the way. I would love for it to work and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well what AMD Catalyst version did you install?

Check with AMD and get the latest drivers (and even then it may not show as a 270X, some programs read the GPU direct and you'll find the 270X is actually a rebranded 7870 variant 😉

Thanks for the quick response. I didn't know about that, interesting. But it's definetly not that, it only says 256mb of video RAM, and it is called Microsoft Basic Display Driver

14.4? 14.7 RC?
Are you sure you fully installed the drivers? Sometimes the drivers may not fully install everything,

I've tried it a few times for both the gpu and mobo drivers, always from the websites instead of the inlcluded discs.
