I have a Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 mobo with a AMD FX-8320 CPU OC'd at 4.6 GHz and a pair of Radeon HD 7850 running in Crossfire. Ambient temperature around here is about 26C, but during idle, the southbridge heatsink is around 40C. I could put my finger on it for awhile, but not long. During gaming, the heatsink is like 50C or higher, I couldn't keep my finger on it for over a second. I got the heatsink temperature from an infrared thermometer and I'll bet the chipset underneath it is a lot hotter, probably around 90C. This bothers me because southbridge shouldn't be running this hot.

I was wonder is this normal and could it be my solid state hybrid drive be the cause of it.? The SSHD is my primary disk with the OS in it. Are any of you running a similar set up and getting these temperatures? I'd appreciate any feedback.

I reverted everything back to default setting in the BIOS but it has no impact on the temperature. And the southbridge is sandwiched between the two gpus, so an aftermarket heatsink is not an option for me.

i have the same issue. i think it also burnt out the audio on my board "before the fix" however, i managed to get a small squirrel cage fan and i mounted it in a drive bay right next to the SB Heat sink. So far it has been quite effective and no blue screens at an overclock of 5.5ghz. :pt1cable:
