Asus Maximus hero ix query?

will putting my nvme 960 evo m.2 be fully operational for a boot drive OS? or will it steal to much pcie lanes from my gpu and/or cpu to work?

im rocking a unlocked intel 7700k with a nvid gtx 1080 founders edition ref card

which m.2 slot should i populate one closest to cpu or down near my psu? and with which settings in the bios am i to change to have it operational and not affect any performance if
I am able? i just need to slap in some storage and im good to go. thanks

Per your motherboard manual the NVMe drive should go into slot M.2_1. Set M.2 slot in BIOS to act in Auto per this manual.

m.2_1 slot is the slot closest to the cpu if im not mistaken?

or should i populate m2_2 with sata 5 & 6 disabled or does that not make a difference if i use the m.2_1 slot on auto?
