Asus Maximus VI Hero compatibility with G.Skill F3-2400C10D-16GTX

Hi,
The ASUS QVL/user manual for the MAXIMUS VI HERO does not have the G.Skill F3-2400C10D-16GTX listed as compatible.

However the G.Skill website states that this memory is compatible with Maximus VI Hero.

Who should I trust?
Is anyone running this memory on a Maximus VI Hero?

QVLs are generally useless. It will work just fine. But the board and RAM is very much overkill.

Well the RAM in general, as in the MHz speed is way overkill. So is the motherboard.

I mean from a cost vs value and usage perspective you do not need to pay that much for hardware.

I agree with you.
However the Asus Z87 Pro series nearly cost the same and lack some of the features/build quality of the Hero.
I've never owned a ROG. So I really want to try an ROG M/B.
As for the RAM. Should I go for lower frequencies (MHz) and good CAS timings?

ROG is overrated. But ok.

2133MHz RAM at the very most.

I usually suggest sticking to decent G.skill 1866MHz CAS 9-10-9 Sniper RAM that can be adjusted very easily to whatever speed you want without much effort.

I actually picked up the same motherboard but used G.Skill Sniper 2133 and I can understand what you meant by the price, etc. being overkill to an extent, especially at the end of 2013. However, I was able to get an i7-4770K + Maximus VI Hero + 8GB of RAM as a bundled deal for $425 today.

I went over options such as the VII Hero (Z97) and the Devil's Canyon (i7-4790K) but they did not have any bundle deals and buying them separately would have totaled $629.98+tax @.06%. Also, you can ONLY get that bundled deal in-store and not online. When I went in today, I actually discovered they had reduced the price of the i7-4770K because of the new CPU release so it went from $445 to $425.

For me, considering I'm not "upgrading" an existing box but doing a completely new build.. it is a monster. Especially when you consider what I was running before.. and I will spare you the dreadful spec's on that box lol. So yeah, *knock on wood* that everything is ok and nothing is DOA, I will have those parts inside a Fractal R4 mid-tower case, SSD+HDD, Seasonic 750KM3, Noctua NH-U14S as my CPU Cooler, etc. I am holding off on a GPU for a few months or so until I make a calculated decision on something like a EVGA Geforce GTX 770 2GB (titan cooler) or even a 780 which would make this a build that *knock on wood again* would do everything I need and then some for years to come. Let's hope it all works out.

But yeah, saving that nearly $250 allows me to really sit back and save up even more for that GPU and who knows, perhaps another monitor or something else that will make this build even better.
