Hi I am waiting for the ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard to come out. Does anyone know the release date for this motherboard? I plan on getting a new computer in the beginning of July.

Now on the specs, Is the Maximus VI Hero an ATX motherboard? Is there any reason I will want the Maximus VI Extreme instead? I don't think I will ever do SLI, and if I do, I will only have like 2 GPU at the most. Also I will not be doing any water cooling for the motherboard, just the CPU with corsair H100i cooler. I will have an internal card reader, 2 HDDs, 1 SDD, and 2 DVD/Blu-ray burners. I think 8 6Gbs Sata slots is enough. Does this motherboard also have USB 2.0/3.0 on the motherboard for my internal card reader? It has an USB 2.0 pin slot.

Why would this motherboard be useless for me? Isn't the Maximus VI Hero an Z87 motherboard to begin with?

-overclocking will the be the same in the end unless you are doing liquid nitrogen
-feature set is the same as its z87. you may get a few extra usb3 ports or sata ports but in reality no one uses more than 4 sata ports unless this is a home server
-extra sound can be aquired through a external sound card that sounds better
-price is ridiculous

I am not going to do any custom water cooling or liquid nitrogen. I am only going to cool my Haswell 4770K with an Corsair H100i. I am not going to do any overclocking unless I really need it, and if I do, I will only overclock it to 4.0Ghz at the most. This is an Z87 motherboard and the extra USB 3 and SATA ports can't hurt since it is nice to have extra since you never know if you will need them. I don't want to have to buy an external sound card when the onboard sound card can make me happy. The price to me is not terrible as it $220 and not $400 like the maximus VI extreme motherboard. Also I really like the black and red style as that is the theme of my new computer. So am I making a good choice getting this motherboard?

Yes.

Solution
I would also not recommend ordering this mobo from amazon as it is still not shipping for another week+ even though it shows as "in stock" on the product page. I ordered one over a week ago and on order tracking it still shows that is hasn't even began to ship yet and the delivery estimate is early July. I would try newegg or even go into a physical store if you need it immediately.

Thanks for the info! I was going to order it on Amazon but now I will order from Newegg instead. Thanks.
