Asus Maximus VI Hero Start Button Not Doing Anything

I tried doing an external build just to make sure everything was running before I moved stuff into my case but I can't even get any fans to run. When I plug everything in to the psu and turn it on, the Start and Reset lights come on. When I press start, no fans move and nothing happens. This is my first build so it's possible I'm missing something very obvious but I can't figure out how to get power to all the components. Right now, all I have connected together is the mobo, the psu, the processor and fan I got for it, and my RAM. I tried running it with the GPU on the board and with power but that didn't work so I took it off to make it simpler. Any help is much appreciated!

all the power is connected, the 24pin atx power and the 8 pin cpu power cable?

Do you have either the stock cooler or Hyper 212 installed?

Yes, both powers are connected and I have the Hyper 212 installed

I took off the cooler and got the chip back out and everything looks fine. Nothing bent, nothing where it shouldn't be. Installed them back on and removed everything else. No RAM, no GPU, only the cpu, cpu cooler and the mobo. Still nothing happens when I press the start button

Make sure all the connections for the case are correct, might also reverse them, i.e. if you have a white wire on GRN change the connector so it's to the + or POS

Can you explain what connections you're referring to? I'm not sure I know what connections you're talking about.

Oh nevermind, I see. But I don't have it connected to the case at all. I'm talking about the start button directly on my motherboard

My bad, is it in the case? If so may have a short at one of the standoffs

In isn't in the case at all. It's on cardboard on a table. But as an update, I managed to turn it on by shorting the power pins. The fans ran and everything so that's great. I just don't know why the start button on the mobo doesn't work now

Meh, you'll never use that start button on the motherboard. Once its hooked to your case, you'll use that button. It works and thats the good part.

Might send an email to Asus and see what they say, I've got one on mine and have never used it
