Should be completely fine, I have run Linux on a huge array of hardware from a pentium from 2002 to a dual core laptop from 2008 to an 8 core AMD FX CPU in 2012 to a 8 Core AMD server, to my friends 4 core i7 4770k, all on different motherboards with different RAM and generally different configurations. The only real incompatibility I've found is AMD GPUs tend to suck if you need 3D acceleration however I imagine SteamOS will help too resolve this as the drivers for it will run on normal Linux distros too, and I don't imagine either GPU manufacturer wants to be left out of that.
