Asus Maximus VII Formula & Gigabyte Z97 G1 Wifi BK , MSI Z97 XPOWER AC , Which Motherboard Are Best For Sli ?

Gigabyte has the lowest % of negative reviews on newegg but the numbers are small so hard to give weight statistically. Looking at last round's return rates, the Formula is the only one of the 3 to make the Top 10 Most returned list and Gigabyte had the lowest return rate among the Big 4.

Serice wise, they all stink :)

That's said it's be hard for me to pick which one is best based upon that stuff but ...... as the Owner of a Maximus Formula board, I'd say either of the other two.

Since ya seem to be looking for included WiFi, I'd recommend the MSI Z97 Gaming 9 which can kick some tail

i dun need WIFi but , does in SLI X8 X8 and X16 X16 got any different ? i need to SLI Titan X , and i can't choose the motherboard , i see the Formula got 2x X16 X16 so i can get all the BandWitdh for 2 Titan X so you recommend the MSI Gaming 9 ?

The Maximus VII Formula does **not** have the capability to do x16 x16 .... your CPU can only handle 16 lanes total and x16 x16 is 32. Without a kludgy PEX chip, you can't have more than 16 lanes total.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132264 Hit specs tab

PCI Express 3.0 x16: 2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8)

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_FORMULA/specifications/

2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8)

That means you can do:

x16, x0
x8, x8

As above:

a) if you need WiFi, I'd recommend the MSI Gaming 9
b) if you don't need WiFi, I'd recommend the Gaming 5 from either MSI or Gigabyte

Both those boards outperform the Formula and the Gaming 5's are $170 - 180 less

Do you see any features that the Gaming 9 has that make you want to spend $170 more ? If not why not an open loop water cooler for $150 like the Swiftech H240-X ? Put the rest towards waterblocks for the Titans and a 2nd radiator

Tks you for answer , actually i dun need wifi , but maybe i will use it some times , and 1 question , From X99 and Z97 , X16 X16 , X8 X8 about the performance got any big different ? , like X8 X8 i got 90 FPS and in X16 X6 i got 110 , something like that

On X99 with a 5820k you have 28 lanes compared to Z97's 16 lanes
On X99 with a 5930k you have 40 lanes compared to Z97's 16 lanes

The MSI X99A Gaming 7 does:

- 1-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x0

- 2-way mode: x16/ x16/ x0/ x0 with 5930k
- 2-way mode: x16/ x8/ x0/ x0 with 5820k

- 3-way mode: x16/ x16/ x0/ x8 with 5930k
- 3-way mode: x8/ x8/ x8/ x0 with 5820k

I don't recognize the term bottleneck. It's so overused it's become meaningless. A system should always be designed to be "balanced" but "bottleneck" is too strong a word as it's used in most instances.

In general, Z97 (4790k) outperformsX99 (5820k) in gaming with up to 2 GFX cards. Getting an edge with X99 involves 3 or more GFX cards, and it takes a 5960x to get a significant edge when it's apples and apples comparison. You can play a bit with this here:
