Which is better, are the ROG features worth it?

You're not going to see any performance gain with either, so as long as both have everything you need, go with whichever is cheaper, or looks better

I only care about the following features:

1) AUDIO, and
2) QUALITY

The "GENE" appears to be basically the "HERO" but as micro-ATX so less PCIe slots which chances are is fine.

Both these boards have better quality audio solutions including the ability to have SURROUND audio from stereo headphones via the front audio jack (real time hardware virtualization).

If you don't care about the improved audio then I suggest the Asus Z97-A which is far cheaper and a quality board. I don't think the other features are that important personally.

I generally stick with Asus for the quality.

IMO, I would go with the ASRock since it is cheaper and most features on the genie are not even needed. Plus that extra money could be spent on better CPU, GPU, Etc.
