Asus Maximus VII Impact + Kingston Predator m.2 mPCi-e - will it work? [and did I kill my Asus m.2 PCi-e Combo iV adapter?]

Hi there,

I just wanted to ask two questions.

First. When I insert m.2 sata SSD drive, into m.2 pci-e adapter, will it kill a) ssd drive b) pci-e adapter c) both of them d) none of them [too low voltage, or something]

Second. Will Kingston Predator 240 GB work with Asus m.2 mPCi-e Combo iV adapter? And will I be able to install and boot Windows 8.1/10 on this SSD?

Thank You for Your help guys!

Humble regards,

Hi there,
Our HyperX Predator M.2 PCIe SSD is compatible with the ASUS M.2 mPCIe Combo IV expansion card since according to it's specifications it supports M-key M.2 PCIe SSDs up to 22*110mm and ours is a M-key M.2 PCIe 22*80mm SSD. The Intel Z97 chipset supports booting to PCIe SSDs so the system should be able to boot with the operating system installed on the PCIe SSD.

If for some reason the adapter doesn't get along, the drive will just not be detected and no harm should occur to either the drive or adapter unless it is not installed properly. Just make sure the drive is secured in the slot completely and there should be no issue.

Thank you for choosing the HyperX Predator!

Greetings kingstonhq,

I already talked to support in Asus, they told me the same.

Though, I was worried when I hit m.2 M with m.2 M + B, whether I won't damage the port. But I read on Kingston page that M + B was made for superior compatibility, so I believe I'll be good. That was my concern.

I already hit m.2 mPCi-e Combo iV with Intel 530 180 GB, that was m.2 M + B, into the combo adapter. So I was worried whether I didn't damage it. It just didn't boot up, since the adapter supports only mPCi-e and not SATA SSDs.

Thank You once more!

Humble regards
