Hi everyone,

I've just purchased the Samsung 970 evo m.2 nvme ssd.

But after reading up on installing it I'm unsure whether to use the m.2 slot or utilise a pci slot via an adapter.

I have my 1070 gpu in the x16 slot. With none of the other slots nor m.2 slot being used.

From my understanding the m.2 slot only suppprts up to 10gbps, but the ssd will be bottle necked through that so I need to use one of the pci slots ?

But which one ? :p

My mobo is the Asus maximus vii ranger. I've read many conflicting forums so I'm asking here.

Thank you for any help.

I'd advise using PCIEx4_3 slot with a riser card for your SSD, after reading your motherboard manual. The M.2 slot is based on older platform/technology. It wasn't until after that the M.2 slots were perfected to have their full bandwidth on them. FYI, the SSD you have now wasn't available then. ;)

Using the PCIEx4_3.. Will I achieve the 3400/2300 speeds advertised ?

I think the PCIEx4_3 is pcie 2.0? Wouldn't I need pcie 3.0 for full speeds ?

Riser card ?... Adapter card?
