ASUS Maximus VIII hero not turning on?

Sorry, I'm still kinda new to building computers, so I'm not sure if there's an easy fix that I've overlooked.

My Maximus VIII Hero isn't turning on, I've checked the power to the motherboard and it seems to work, but when I plug it into the motherboard and press the power button nothing turns on. I've also checked the front panel connectors, and that doesn't help - it could still be the problem though.
Any Suggestions?

I'm pretty sure that my psu (http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=220-P2-1200-X1) came with a jumper, which I plugged into the MB cable instead of the motherboard, does this work too?

yes, the psu turns on and an hdd connected to it also turns on.

It could be the board.
Try testing the board outside the case, only CPU and CPU fan installed, both 24 and 8 pin power cable connected. See if the CPU fan does spin.

I tested the motherboard outside the case, and the lights on the motherboard turned on, and the cpu fan turned on.

Not sure if this relevant but I also plugged in some ram and it still worked.

Are you getting signal on the monitor?

um... Nope. when I plug the monitor into the hdmi port on the motherboard it says no signal. I use the monitor with another computer so it should work.

Try leaving single RAM module installed. Test each RAM slot.

yeah, I played around with the ram, and I managed to get it to boot into the bios.

oh, I just took them out and switched them. I think I just put one in wrong the first time. Should I check all the slots?
I'm using the farthest away slots from the cpu

You have to use 2 and 4. Does it work like that?

Yes, it works like that. should I put it back into the chassie now or should I do something else?

Check the standioffs. Make sure that they are in correct spots

yeah, they're in the correct spots. Should I put the motherboard back into the chassie? and should I connect other components too?

Yes, put it back and test again, no other components added. If working, then power off and add them.
