Question Asus Maximus VIII Hero Q-CODE 00

HI, I've been having a problem today with my current system. After freezing completely (as in the whole screen was just frozen, couldn't move the mouse cursor or type anything and anything animated stopped) while I was in Windows and then resetting I started getting Q-Code 00 after trying to boot. While hanging on the 00 code I get a single non blinking cursor on the screen. This only started happening today after having the system for a few years.

Parts currently installed are:

MOBO: Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero
CPU: Intel I7-6700k
Cooler: Corsair H100i v2
GPU: Nvidia Titan XP
Memory: 2 x 8GB G.Skill Trident Z 3200Mhz
Storage: Samsung 950 Pro M.2
PSU: EVGA 850 P2
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Things I've tried:

  • Removing each part and reinstalling.
  • Removing the GPU and switching from dedicated to onboard graphics.
  • Taking out one stick of memory and trying each one individually and trying them in different slots.
  • Resetting BIOS and CMOS both through using the CMOS Reset button and unplugging the machine and removing the CMOS battery for 5 minutes.
  • Using USB BIOS flashback to flash both the latest version of the bios, did this two times.
  • Removing all storage and trying to get into the bios.
  • Flashing an older bios.
After using USB bios flashback for the second time and powering on the machine I got Q-CODE 00 again, but the computer subsequently reset itself (it didn't do this the previous times) and then I managed to boot into Windows and run the Intel Processor diagnostic tool, this completed all stages of the test including the stress test with no issues and passed. A few minutes later after some light usage the PC froze like before. I've got the freezing with both onboard and dedicated graphics so I don't think its graphic card related. After resetting the PC and turning it on again the system started HANGING a few different Q-CODES during each boot attempt, I don't remember what order but they consisted of: 14, 72, 41, 53, B2, 96, 55. During the B2 code I got the same single cursor on the screen as I did with code 00 but I don't think I got it when it hung on any other codes.

During a few boot attempts after the second freeze and round of error codes I got the message "Power supply surges detected during the previous power on. This happened maybe 3-4 times.

Now it is back to hanging on code 00 with the cursor on the screen and will not give any other codes each time I try to boot. When booting, the CPU LED flashes red then goes out followed by the VGA led flashing white and then the boot device led lighting up orange and staying on.

From searching online I read that code 00 is typically either CPU, MOBO or PSU. I'm thinking its not the CPU because I managed to get into Windows at one point and run processor diagnostics which passed. I was thinking it would be the motherboard but the power supply surges make me suspect it potentially being the PSU or both.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone has an idea about what this could be?

I realised that when using USB Bios Flashback the light was flashing three times then staying solid. I waited about 1.5 hours and it never went out so I'm not sure it completed. I read up on it again and supposedly its supposed to flash faster each time until it completes rather than staying on solid like that.

The flash drive was formatting as FAT32 and I named the file M8H.CAP like in the instructions.

Thanks.
