According to ASUS official specifications, the N550JV laptop supports a maximum of 16GB RAM.

However, the laptop is a bit older now and maximum SODIMM sizes have increased since it was released. Is a new 2 x 16GB kit going to work in this laptop? Can I get it working by fiddling with BIOS or other settings? Intel says the processor supports up to 32GB...

That link really doesn't explain it to me.

I had the same issue with a Sony and by the time I wanted to upgrade it beyond its initial max claim, I was able to do it but ONLY if I get the same size sodimm in its low density incarnation, so 16 chips on a sodimm works but not the 8 chips high density variety. I never got to the bottom of it, just glad I was able to do it. YMMV.
