Putting a system together with some left-over parts 2.8 GHz P4C, BBA 9600Pro, 512 MB Kingston RAM PC3200. Looking at P4P800 Delux-E or ABIT IS7. System is for my daughter who is away at college. Reliability top priority.

Considering what I've seen from Asus on voltage regulator design, I'd have to go with the Abit IS7.

Try putting your finger on the MOSFETS under the AGP card on the ABIT IC7-MAX3. Seems they fixed the CPU Core supply but forgot about the AGP supply. Not sure if it effects performance but my 9600 Pro can't clock as high on the ABIT board as it did on the ASUS board. Freezes on Mother Nature. Need to reload drivers and try a different card to see which one is the real issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm leaning towards the ABIT anyway. My ASUS experience wasn't any better and the ABIT over clocking ability seems much better.

Another IS7 vote.

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

Epox will overclock better than any other and in addition to Epox MSI will be most stabel as well. Abit and Asus are old news.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

Considering that Abit's older boards are often better than their newer boards (IS7>AI7, NF7-S>AN7), old news is often good news!

so, what's good about them if their newer stuff is worst than the older, and the "old news" is: where do they go with sucha progress (of getting worst)?

The IS7 and NF7-S are great products, the newer ones were likely introduced because they were cheaper to produce. It's good news for us that the old stuff is still being produced, and good news for them that some people prefer the newer ones that make them more money. Newer doesn't mean better, i865 and i875 boards have become stagnant due to the fact that the early products were fairly good, leaving little room for improvement on those chipsets. Don't expect to see any noticable improvements until new hardware (for the board, such as chipsets) becomes available.
